From Imagination to 'Meraki': The Art of Naming

What Goes into a Name: The Journey Behind 'Meraki,' My Latest Lithograph Collection

Creating art is a deeply personal journey. It's about pouring your heart and soul into every brushstroke, every colour choice, and every concept. Naming a collection is just as personal and meaningful, and the story behind the name 'Meraki' is one that I'm excited to share with you.

From November 2022 to June 2023: A Seven-Month Odyssey

The journey of 'Meraki' began in my mind back in November 2022. I started to conceptualise the collection, letting ideas percolate and creativity flow. But it wasn't until April 2023 that I put my plans into action. It took three months to bring the collection to life, and those months were filled with dedication and hard work.

The process was a labour of love, with countless hours spent in my studio. I experimented with different techniques, delved into a myriad of colours, and pushed the boundaries of my creativity. Each piece in the 'Meraki' collection is a reflection of the soul and spirit I put into my work, and I can't wait for you to see them.

Naming 'Meraki': A Three-Hour Brainstorm

The name 'Meraki' didn't come to me easily; it was the result of a three-hour brainstorming session. It had to capture the essence of the collection, the love and dedication that went into it. 'Meraki' perfectly embodies the idea of doing something with soul, creativity, and love, and it's a name I hold close to my heart.

The 'Grande' and 'Petite' Concept: A Half-Day Journey

But it wasn't just the collection name that needed careful consideration. We wanted to offer two sizes of prints to cater to different preferences. However, I didn't want to simply call them 'Small' and 'Large.' So, it took us half a day to conceptualise the concept of 'Grande' and 'Petite.' These names capture the essence of the collection and give each size its own unique character.

The Energy Behind Each Design

With each design, we took the time to sit, look, and feel into the energy of the piece. For instance, "Amber Sonata" suggests a rich and warm imagery of "amber" with the structure and expressive qualities of a "Sonata." It's a visual symphony of warm colours and harmonious composition, capturing the essence of autumn, a season of transition and reflection. This piece invites viewers to connect with the beauty of the natural world, much like the harmonious notes of a musical Sonata.

The Meraki Collection: Where Art and the Human Spirit Unite

The 'Meraki' collection brings to life the connection between art and the human spirit. It encapsulates the essence of art as a means of expression, passion, and devotion.

Using the pointillism style, the collection represents the vibrant energy of life through intricate and precise dots. Just like life is made up of countless moments and experiences, these works are composed of countless dots, each contributing to the whole.

Creating art isn't just about the final product; it's about the journey, the emotions, and the stories behind each piece. 'Meraki' is more than just a name; it's a reflection of the heart and soul I've poured into this collection. I hope you'll find inspiration in 'Meraki' to infuse your life with creativity, love, and authenticity.

Thank you for joining me on this journey through the inspiration behind 'Meraki.' I look forward to sharing more about my art and creative process with you in the future.

Stay inspired!

With Love and Light,

Mishell xx
